This one-of-a-kind piece that was created from a prompt of four words;

Frame

Monarch Butterfly

Green

Florals

As you can see I upcycled an old book as the frame and used handmade and dried foliage for the flowers.

I really enjoyed this project as the Monarch butterfly is not usually on my radar of things to create but looking into the life cycle and symbolism of this creature, I was fascinated. They are believed to carry the souls of departed loved ones back to the world of the living.

Their whole migration takes three to four generations of monarchs to complete. No single butterfly makes the entire round trip, and it ends with most arriving in Mexico between late October and early November. The timing perfectly aligns with th  ‘Day of the Dead’, deepening their symbolic connection between the living and the deceased.

Their ability to fly long distances is symbolic of the ability to navigate the world with wisdom and endurance.

These colourful creatures teach the importance of transformation and persistance in reaching one’s goals. They inspire us to be strong, to endure, to trust in oneself, while connecting with something greater!

The book itself measures 19cm x 12cm x 3cm and it has a multi coloured light embedded in the pages for that extra illumination.
