Long-eared Bat

I enjoyed continuing the style of my previous UK wildlife paintings and I wanted the colours and textures to have a dreamlike quality. As with the others this one is on 8″x 8″ stretched canvas

Long-eared bats are also known as ‘whispering bats’ because their echolocation sounds are very quiet. Due to this heightened sense of hearing, bats are symbolically associated with sensitivity and intuition.

They are often depicted as creatures of the night, associated with witches and vampires. Also, as messengers between the living and the dead, this role often connects to beliefs in rebirth and transformation. However, in some cultures, they are seen purely as symbols of good luck and prosperity.

Regardless of how you perceive them, I aimed for a cute look for mine, as I think bats are one of my favourites.
