I love working like this, it’s a different process altogether and with this individual 3D creation I mainly used a fabric hardener with lots of different materials. I used a wire template for his wing anatomy, bound with tape and a glue gun before binding with my own made air drying clay. I used card with gold leaf for the in-between and added a silky light weave drapery which adds to his multiple textures. I stitched this on and bound with more fabric hardener at the back and gesso filler so it is very secure!

He is painted in acrylics and topped with pattern power for that extra shimmer and sealed with a waterproof varnish spray.

The whole piece took over 35 hrs, though it’s hard to tell with all the drying time involved.

It measures 36cm x 38cm x 5cm (14″ x 15″ x 2″) and is very sturdy.

I have decided not to have any prints done as the photos really don’t justify his individual character. He looks much better in the flesh and is a very exclusive piece of art.

I am happy to take on commissions of themes in a similar style as this.
