This is my second piece linked with Beltane – the midway between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice.
All of life is bursting with fertility in this season of Spring and this piece represents the thriving energy of the Maiden Goddess and Green Man, who are the manifestations of growth and renewal through celtic tradtionals. Together, the May Queen and May King are symbols of the sacred marriage, the cycle of new growth, the union of earth and sky.
Starting life as just the embodiment of two entwining figures, I decided to add horns, branches and blossoms of the forest to bring that lovely earth bound, flourishing Spring connection to the figures.
I created a wonderful woodland frame for this couple, incorporating bark, hessian other gifts from nature, I also tried a new criss cross style of weaving through the wood of the frame.
